Sound at the Speed of Sunset is my new ambient music project.
Conceptually, the album was conceived over a three month period during which I sat each day to observe the Andalusian landscape transform at sunset. It’s an exploration of the relationship between sound and emotion.
If you can find the time, I recommend listening to this 67-minute album as a whole piece. It’s music for introspection. You may enjoy listening while meditating, walking, journalling, drawing, stretching, tripping, knitting or gardening. Pay attention to your inner landscape and notice what is stirred up.
The first movement is comprised of two tracks, both fairly gentle and easy to listen to. Track One invites you to arrive in the present moment: slow down your heartbeat, settle in and begin to notice the subtleties in the sonic landscape. Track Two is about home, connection and reverence.
The second movement brings in more discomfort and tension. It could stimulate feelings of fear or grief. That’s okay. Stay with it. Hold that settled presence you practiced in the first movement, and be patient. It’s not as easy as the first movement, but there are rewards for the curious.
The final movement is a return to simplicity, to comfort, to ease. It’s your lover’s quiet embrace at the end of the day. It’s a blessing, a thousand blessings, lovingkindness for you and for all beings.
Composed & recorded over four days in Comnes Studio in Tuscany, it’s made entirely from sounds from my mouth, transformed by a briefcase of electronic sculpting tools.
You can listen on Spotify, follow my YouTube channel for more frequent releases, and if you’re really feeling enthusiastic you can support my work by buying the album on Bandcamp.
I will be so curious to hear your reactions to this new project!
Sending love,
Rich
